Everything You Need to Run a Clean, Food Grade Chicken Farm in South Africa

Food-grade chicken farming

According to statistics, in 2023, South Africa’s poultry meat sector came to the value of 72 billion rand. With this figure in mind, it’s common knowledge that for such an industry to continue thriving, hygiene on chicken farms is paramount and should be prioritised. Continue reading as we delve into the importance of running a clean, food-grade chicken farm in South Africa and the cleaning solutions offered by us to ensure you can achieve the latter.

If you know anything about farming, you’ll know that the reality is that farmers need to take various precautions to ensure that diseases and their adverse effects are not spread among their chickens. In more technical terms, the correct hygiene products, equipment and disinfecting measures should be employed for poultry farms to maintain biosecurity and, ultimately, possibly even most importantly, to ensure that their products are safe for human consumption. If you’re a farmer, you’re in luck because MaPa Cleaning Technologies specialises in the correct cleaning equipment required to maintain a clean and safe poultry coop.

Necessity 1: Brushware

The first step in preventing the spread of diseases on chicken farms begins with basic sanitation measures – brush ware, and SABS-approved cleaning chemicals. To deep-clean your chicken houses, we recommend utilising our short-churn brushes, velowig mops, and synthetic feather dusters, to name a few. Additionally, we suggest employing HACCP (Hygiene Analysis Critical Control Point) hygiene cleaning equipment. Fortunately, we supply HACCP-approved products, all of which are imported from Germany, ISO certified, and are also certified according to Europe’s food standard specifications. To further prevent cross-contamination and ensure that biosecurity is met, we stock colour-coded HACCP brushware. From food-grade rubber squeegees with less than 1% water absorption to double mopping units and buckets for water separation, we’ve got you covered!

Necessity 2: Chicken Trolley

Taking poultry farming cleanliness one step further, our Pressure Washer Avian (PWA), also known as the ‘Chicken Trolley’, was built to make life a lot easier for chicken farm owners. This high-pressure washer can reach pressures of 200 bar and flow rates of up to 15 litres per minute. It also includes a high-pressure gun, lance and nozzle as standard equipment. These units can be fitted with up to 150m of 3/8” hose, with the option of a non-marking, blue food-grade hose, allowing you to plug it in on one side of the coop and clean the other.

Necessity 3: Double Axel Chicken Trailer

Outperforming its predecessor, our double-axle trailer needs no introduction. This unit may just be the reason you can tackle larger surface areas faster and more efficiently. Built to deliver results, this trailer features four food-grade house reels, four pumps and motors and a built-in toolbox that will provide you with space to securely store loose equipment.

Necessity 4: Pot Foamer

Let’s not forget our stainless-steel pot foamer – a product known for its success in cleaning chicken coops. Accompanied by a RB65 Low Pressure wash down gun, this unit can be used to effortlessly spray insecticides, foam or to have as a mobile pest control system. Due to the machine’s use of compressed air and being able to dilute your sanitising chemical based on what is needed, you can sanitize effectively. All that required to run this machine is a Max 6 Bar Air Compressor to charge it.

Don’t forget! To ensure that your machines can operate at an optimal level, we also stock a variety of spares and accessories such as nozzles, guns, lances, quick couplings and pump repair kits. It’s no secret that by prioritising the health of your poultry flock, you may just gain a profitable flock.
